Unveiling a Unusual Steam Demo: Guiding a Piece of Feces with the Goal to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and gamers have discovered plenty of entertaining independent titles. However, one stands out for its offbeat concept. Titled Unko Technica, this retro-inspired platformer includes a hero that is literally a turd attempting to travel to a toilet. As a fun fact, "Unko" means "poop."

Player controls is easy to grasp: press a jump control. In one hundred fifty stages, encounter tough enemies and access a store to buy customizations for your poop character.

Execute your actions with caution, since one mistake means restarting the level. Bounce using bubbles to propel yourself higher, traverse disappearing surfaces, and interact with triggers to reveal secret routes. Earn currency to purchase more difficult levels in which the action ramps up.

Graphically, the game boasts neon environments and a killer background music. The simple visual style with morphing basic polygons may remind players of classic titles like Earthbound.

Even though hard to think of other games where you control a piece of feces, video games have long included scatological themes. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can craft explosives from character waste. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use feces as fertilizer. Unsurprisingly, fecal references is present a lot in the adventure The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its goofy idea, Unko Technica has already garnered impressive recognition, including being named best at Bandai Namco's game competition in 2023. The demo is accessible now on Steam, with the final release planned to arrive on computers in the fall.
