Labuschagne Dropped from Australia's One-Day International Team Against India

Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from Australia's three-match ODI series versus India, as high-performing Queensland colleague Matt Renshaw getting a surprise inclusion.

Performance Issues Result in Omission

The right-hander was left out from the one-day international side following being dismissed for one in each of his two innings during the top-end series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a highest score of forty-seven in his previous ten ODI innings.

Labuschagne has featured in 68 one-day internationals and amassed 1,871 ODI runs at an batting average of 34.64, but will now work towards a return to the Test side in time for the Ashes beginning in Perth on 21 November.

Surprise Inclusion and Other Squad Changes

Recent performances suggest of a resurgence with 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw made a hundred for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.

The left-hander may to make his white-ball international debut in the forthcoming series against India after previously being selected in an ODI squad in 2022.

The left-hander has played 14 Tests with the most recent appearance in India in 2023 but is also seeking a Test return as Australia search for a answer to their top-order woes.

Pace Additions and Injury Updates

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc makes a comeback for the ODI series against India after taking a break since excelling for Australia in the whitewash of West Indies in July.

Big Bash star Mitch Owen could make his ODI debut after being concussed in the lead up to Australia’s most recent 50-over series against South Africa.

Skipper Pat Cummins is still unavailable as he works to regain fitness from a back injury by the time to captain Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.

Team Announcement Approach and Schedule

Australia have announced a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the upcoming Ashes series, although Glenn Maxwell will be absent for the five-game T20 series due to a wrist problem sustained in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will lead both the ODI and T20 teams after smashing a century in the final game against New Zealand to secure a series clean sweep last week.

“We have named a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be rotation through the back end of the series as players get ready for the summer through Sheffield Shield cricket,” Australia chair of selectors George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an crucial phase in the preparation for the World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test series ahead.”
