Courageous Train Employee Receives Life-Threatening Injuries During Mass Stabbing Incident on High-Speed Train

A valiant train employee who stepped in to protect travelers during a mass knife attack on a high-speed train has sustained critical wounds, police stated on Sunday.

Details of the Terrifying Event

Surveillance video allegedly shows the employee trying to halt the attacker as the train traveled between a city and Huntingdon in the county. Bystanders described a frightening 14-minute period after the train left Peterborough, with bloodied passengers running through compartments.

The individual, a 32-year-old citizen from Peterborough, is in detention for questioning. Authorities declared a major incident on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in central London.

Crisis Reaction and Consequences

The incident on Saturday night resulted in 11 people being treated in medical facilities after the train made an unscheduled stop at the station in Huntingdon. Several individuals have since been released from hospital.

A bystander recorded the suspect waving a big knife and being subdued with a Taser as he faced officers on the platform. He was reportedly heard shouting, "Kill me, kill me."

“This terrible incident has affected many people. We are thinking of the victims and their families – particularly the courageous member of train personnel whose family are being assisted by trained officers,” said a high-ranking law enforcement official.

Union Response and Appeals for Measures

Rail unions were swift to praise staff and call for increased action. A labor leader said he would be “requesting urgent discussions with authorities, rail employers and police to ensure that we have the strongest available support, tools and effective protocols in operation”.

Another union representative encouraged the train operator and authorities “to act swiftly to examine security, to help the affected workers, and to ensure nothing like this happens again”.

Operator Praised for Quick Action

The train driver who stopped the train at Huntingdon was reported as being “very shaken” but “good”, and has been praised by union representatives for doing “precisely what was needed”.

“He did not halt the service in the center of two stops where it’s obviously challenging for the emergency services to access, but he continued going until he arrived to Huntingdon, where the response was pretty much already there,” explained a association representative.

Additional Information

Authorities said they received the first emergency reports at 7:39 pm, and the train was forced to make an unscheduled stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.

One witness described at first thinking if the situation was a Halloween prank, but soon understood from individuals' faces that it was serious.

Authorities have confirmed there is no evidence to indicate the event was a terrorist incident and have requested the public to come forward with any additional information.

Rail operations on the affected route are expected to have delays until the following day, with travelers recommended to defer their travel where feasible.

Anyone with information that could assist the inquiry are encouraged to reach police by sending a message a specific number with a case code.
